Life Celebrations
Our fastest-growing offering (and certainly the most rewarding,) is our Family Legacy videos. Since the very beginning, we have had requests to produce a variety of video pieces that capture, for posterity, individual and family stories. Some are simply long-form interviews with a family member whose history needs to be remembered. Some of our productions have become elaborate, full-scale documentaries. These involve interviewing several family members and friends in an effort to capture this moment in time, or maybe put together a family’s full historical picture, or to celebrate a family or group milestone (anniversary, business success, engagement, momentous birthday, etc.)
Older family members often wish to leave a record of their life for their family and friends. Imagine being able to talk to your grandchildren or great children long after you’ve gone! You are in charge of your story. Maybe share some photos or mementos with the camera for posterity.
One of the very first long form video projects that I ever produced was a family “documentary” with my grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles. I still consider it one of the most meaningful projects that I’ve ever worked on. I interviewed various relatives back in the 80’s. Only one or two of the subjects in the video survive. My sibling and cousins and I still watch it regularly and all of us admit to laughing and crying every time as the memories come flooding back.
One of the more poignant tasks that we’ve had the honor to be a part of is to record interviews with clients that have received a serious medical diagnosis. It is often reassuring for patients in this circumstance to talk about their life and loves for those close to them. Sometimes the client realizes that this is the last chance to talk about parts of their lives that they have kept to themselves. Others want the chance to preserve a life or family history for the next generation. It is also of comfort to many that they can “talk” to a grandchild or great grandchild that is simply too young to know them… but will be grateful years later to discover their roots. And finally, some folks want a chance to simply say goodbye.
Eclectic Productions does not do wedding or event videos, however, we have had the great pleasure of putting together engagement videos that are the highlight of a rehearsal dinner or engagement party. Often done in the “s/he-said~s/he said” format, they are very much little mini family documentaries celebrating the union of two people and having fun with their personal stories and photos.
All of these video legacies can be used for all kinds of life celebrations, anniversary parties, significant birthdays, family reunions, and wedding gatherings. There is no gift more unique or cherished than a Legacy Film. Funny, poignant, heartfelt… what a loving expression to present to your loved ones. Give us a call, drop us a line.
